Ed Yoo Bio
I am completing my 12th year at Codman Academy where I first joined the faculty in 2011 as the 10th grade
Physics/HLI teacher and continued to teach Chemistry, Biology, and AP Environmental Science over the next 11
years. I have taken on a number of formal leadership responsibilities to support the faculty at Codman. As
Grade 11-12 Team Leader, I helped coordinate fieldwork scheduling, student support needs, and other grade
team responsibilities during meetings. When I shifted to the Science Department Head, I mentored the other
members of the science team by supporting them with classroom observations and organizing professional
development for our department through QTEL and EcoRise. I advocated for the switch from AP Biology to AP
Environmental Science in 2018. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to become a Harvard Graduate School
of Education mentor teacher for the Teacher Education Program (2017-2021) and then a Harvard Teaching
Fellow (2022). Starting July 2022, I left the classroom as a lead teacher and have changed roles and am now the
Codman Science Instructional Coach (Grade 5-12). My primary responsibilities are mentoring Codman science
teachers, revising our science curriculum, and collaborating with K-4 Instructional coach to revise our science
curriculum.
In addition to my primary responsibilities, I have helped establish partnerships through student programming
with with Holly Hill Farm, Green City Growers, EcoRise, Shoals Marine Laboratory (Marine Science Teacher and
Marine Science and Sustainability Immersion), Harvard Medical School MedScience Program, and collaborated
with Stone Living Lab on their intertidal citizen science project. As a previous recipient of the Cooke Fellowship
Program in conjunction with my new role with broad vision across K-12 science, I am especially excited in
supporting Codman Academy faculty who are awarded Cooke Fellowships in achieving their own personal and
school community goals.
