The Legacy of Pat Cooke

Pat Cooke was an activist and visionary who worked to create vibrant neighborhoods as a landscape architect, builder and advocate for affordable housing and urban green space. Pat was a graduate of Purdue University and Harvard Graduate School of Design. He founded Living in Dorchester, Inc. in 1979, and led several other nonprofits including Dorchester Gardenlands Preserve. He loved Dorchester and made a difference to the community and all who met him.

When Pat died in 2014, he left a bequest to be administrated by his good friends and colleagues Michael Gimbrere and Bill Walczak. Considering the many avenues of service that Pat championed throughout his life, Michael and Bill decided to create a foundation that would support innovative solutions to climate change and sustainability. In creating The Pat Cooke Fund, they pay tribute to their friend by funding organizations and individuals who are doing the hard work to move our society and our world past complacency and into action by finding sustainable solutions to the challenges causing climate change.
