Emily Garven Bio

Emily is currently in her third year teaching theater and dance at Boston Green Academy, where she started a new theater program that has grown rapidly in both size and impact. Since its creation, the program has flourished, producing high-quality productions such as The Lion King Jr. and High School Musical, with a cast and stage crew of students who are brand new to performing. These productions have not only inspired students to fall in love with theater but have also helped them develop confidence, collaborative skills, and a sense of community.

In addition to her work in the classroom, she has 15+ years of experience as a theater director, producer, and consultant. She founded and led Inspiration Performing Arts from 2009 to 2021, a program dedicated to making theater accessible to underserved communities, and built it into an organization offering classes, national performance tours, large-scale productions, and community service through arts outreach. She is also the founder of Sharing the Spotlight, a theater program for individuals with special needs, and a proud board member for Uncommon Theater and the Young Professionals Board for Rodman for Kids.

Her understanding of the climate crisis has evolved through her work in education and the arts, where she has seen firsthand how environmental challenges disproportionately affect underserved communities. She believes that the arts are integral to raising awareness and advocating for systemic change. This belief drives her passion for mentoring the next generation of artists who will use their creativity to address pressing global challenges, including environmental justice.

Currently, she integrates eco-conscious practices into her work by incorporating sustainability themes into productions and lessons, emphasizing environmental justice in creative storytelling, and advocating for systemic changes that prioritize equity and sustainability. She is deeply committed to fostering a new generation of artists who can make a meaningful impact on the world.
